SPbU in QS World University Rankings by Subject 2016

According to the results released by QS World University Rankings by Subject St. Petersburg State University has significantly improved its position in several fields of knowledge, and for the first time was included in the rankings on such subjects as “Politics and International Studies”, “Economics” and “Philosophy”. In the field of knowledge “Mineral & Mining Engineering” which appeared in the rankings for the first time this year, St. Petersburg State University was among the leaders and took the 26th place.

St. Petersburg State University joined the group “101-150” in “History” (“151-200” in 2015) and the group “201-250” in “Chemistry” (“251-300” in 2015). University’s position in the field of computer science and information systems also improved, so SPbU left the group “301-400” and took place in the group “201-250”.

The real breakthrough was 26th place in the rankings on the field of study “Mineral & Mining Engineering”. Such an achievement became possible not only due to the high evaluation of the work of SPbU researchers by the international expert community, but also because of a significant increase in the university's image among employers.

In the fields of study "Politics and International Studies", "Economics and Econometrics" Saint-Petersburg State University took place in the group “151-200”, as well as in ​​"Philosophy" it was included in the group “101-150” due to a significant increase in the number of publications of SPbU scientists in the journals indexed in the database Scopus.

Note:

QS World University Rankings by Subject World is published annually since 2011. This year it represented 945 universities ranked in 42 subject areas (in 2015 there were 36 subject areas). The new rankings include the following areas: “Anthropology”, “Archaeology”, “Engineering - Mineral & Mining)”, “Nursing”, “Performing arts”, “Social policy & administration”.

 

This ranking is based on four indicators: a review of the academic community; employers' opinion; the number of citations per article in a journal on relevant topics; h-index of the University.
