On February 21st, 2017 the Smolny campus of SPbSU hosted a meeting between SPbSU bachelor and master International Relations students and the Belgian Ambassador to Russia Mr. Jean-Arthur Regibeau.
The meeting was dedicated primarily to the Russian-Belgian relations, especially the cooperation in the educational domain.
The Ambassador highlighted the importance of students participating in various international exchange programs. Mr. Regibeau’s advice is based on his personal experience: the Ambassador received his IR degree outside Belgium, in the University of Bologna, Italy. Mr. Regibeau voiced his hope one day exchange programs would be available for professors as well.
The students had a rare opportunity to get a first-hand insight into the inner workings of Belgian diplomacy, including the decision-making process. The Ambassador stressed the decisive meaning of international law for the relations between countries as well as the adherence of Belgium to the European integration core principles.
Furthermore, the Ambassador expressed his condolences to the Russian people regarding the death of Permanent Representative of Russia to the United Nations Vitaly Churkin.
Among of the meeting organizers was Dmitrii Nikolayevich Baryshnikov, Ph.D. in Political Science, Associate Professor of the Department of World Politics at SPbSU.
